On February 16, the Belgian singer commented on the announcement that the French authorities had opened an investigation into her, accusing her of concealing income from the tax authorities.

In a statement issued by her public relations agency, Angèle denies all accusations and asserts that she pays her taxes, and those of her company, in her country of origin, Belgium. This clarification comes shortly after the French tax authorities raided her Paris apartment.

"At no time can it be claimed" that Angèle Van Laeken and her company Saïmiri SRL "have concealed income or evaded tax", the statement said. Both "are established in Belgium" and "respect their legal obligations by declaring all their worldwide income" in this same country. "Every year, the company makes significant contributions to the Belgian State."

Also according to the statement, the Saïmiri company "was the subject of investigative measures by the French tax authorities, which led in particular to a domiciliary visit to its private pied-à-terre in Paris", steps which "concern a wider targeting of Belgian artists recognized on the French market".

When contacted by AFP, the Direction Générale des Finances Publiques did not comment "due to tax secrecy".
