In Privas, a commune in France's Ardèche department, five young people died in a road accident. The car ended up in a ravine because of excessive speed.
The accident happened Friday afternoon. On a winding road, a car driver driving at excessive speed lost control of the wheel. The car plunged 20 meters down into a ravine and caught fire. For the occupants, five youths between 17 and 20, all help came too late, local media reported.
The five victims were among a group of 10 youths from the Rhone, divided between two cars. They were looking for a place to swim and drove through the valley of the Cance in the afternoon. The initial investigation and especially the initial statements of witnesses to the accident show that the driver of the first vehicle was driving at excessive speed on a narrow and winding road just before the accident.
The victims, four boys and a girl, were born between 2006 and 2009, the Privas prosecutor reported.
