A Russian ballistic missile killed at least six members of a single family in the Ukrainian village of Radushne (Dnipropetrovsk region) when their home was completely destroyed during a large-scale Russian missile attack on the night of July 30. Among the victims are the parents, Olena and Artem Voronov, and several of their children. Rescue workers were still searching for the remains of other family members on Friday, according to Meduza.
President Volodymyr Zelensky described the strike as “so powerful that almost nothing remained of the house.” “Fragments of human bodies were found among the rubble; only a forensic examination can determine which family members the remains belong to,” he wrote. He had previously reported five confirmed deaths: the parents and three children (Mark, Azarii Ilai, and Emilia). The bodies of five other children—Zakharii, Dominika, Federika, Viorika, and their one-and-a-half-year-old grandson Artem—had not yet been identified at that time, but there is strong suspicion that they are among the victims, according to the Kyiv Independent.
“Almost nothing remains after the Russian ballistic missile struck”
In a local Telegram chat, shared on social media, the son Matvii, who lives in Poland, asked neighbors if anyone had survived. “Matvii, I was there; only the foundation of the house remains—they were all killed,” said the reply. The Voronov family had a total of ten children; at the time of the attack, seven children and the grandson were at home. The attack on Radushne was part of a broader Russian missile and drone assault on Ukraine, in which, according to authorities, at least eight people were killed and more than 50 were injured. Lviv and Kyiv were also hit. Zelenskyy once again emphasized Ukraine’s vulnerability to ballistic missiles, partly due to a shortage of Patriot interceptor missiles. “When we say that Ukraine needs Patriots… we’re not talking about abstractions, but about exactly these kinds of families,” the president said.
Ukrainian officials reported that the missile may have been a North Korean ballistic missile, a type that, according to Zelensky, was used against Radushne “for the first time in a long time.” Further investigation is ongoing.
