This is the dramatic assessment published by Save the Children, according to which the military escalation in the region is hitting the youngest hardest: air raids, bombings and massive displacements are leaving hundreds of thousands of families without homes, security and essential services.

The situation is particularly serious in Lebanon, where, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Social Affairs, more than 700,000 people have been forced to leave their homes. Among them are more than 200,000 children. Many families are fleeing under extremely difficult conditions, losing everything that guaranteed stability and security for the little ones in a matter of days: homes, schools, communities and daily routines.

According to the humanitarian organization, 83 children have been killed and 254 wounded in air raids in Lebanon, adding to a total of almost 300 minors killed in the region since the start of this new outbreak of violence.

For Nora Ingdal, Save the Children's director in Lebanon, the figures tell only part of the story.

"It's not just about statistics, but about shattered lives and children whose futures have been forever scarred by war," she said.

The military escalation, Ingdal explains, is compounding the trauma of many minors who have already lived through years of instability, conflict and displacement.

According to the organization, it's urgent that all parties respect international humanitarian law and take immediate steps to protect civilians, especially children.

In view of the growing number of civilian casualties, Save the Children appeals to the international community. An immediate ceasefire is still urgently needed to prevent further loss of life and escalation of the conflict.

"Children did not start this war, and they cannot continue to pay the highest price," concludes Ingdal.
