The anticipation surrounding the new Harry Potter TV series continues to rise, but fans will be able to get their first look at the project long before the official launch (and much sooner than they may have imagined). HBO Max announced Finding Harry on Friday: The Art Behind the Magic, a behind-the-scenes documentary dedicated to the creation of the first season.
The date is set for April 5, Easter Sunday, when the documentary arrives on streaming platforms offering an in-depth preview of the new TV adaptation project.
The series project will debut at Christmas 2026 with a season inspired by Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, but this special already promises a real journey into the heart of the production. The documentary focuses on the construction of the new Wizarding World, showing the work of the artists, technicians and designers mobilized to recreate Hogwarts for a new generation of viewers.
Among the most eagerly awaited aspects is the casting process, recounted in the special with particular care. The documentary shows how the new interpreters of the three protagonists were chosen: Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton were chosen to take up the mantle of Harry, Ron and Hermione.
Alongside the cast, Finding Harry: The Art Behind the Magic also focuses on costumes, sets and special effects, all key elements in recreating the atmosphere of the saga. The aim is to offer an even more detailed visual universe than in previous film versions, thanks to a colossal production budget and a long-term approach specific to the serial format.
The special also includes numerous interviews with members of the cast, including John Lithgow, Janet McTeer and Paapa Essiedu, who play Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall and Severus Snape respectively. The actors talk about the scale of the project and the investment required to bring such iconic characters back to life.
The documentary is narrated by Nick Frost, who will play Rubeus Hagrid in the series. His voice guides viewers between film sets, costume fittings and never-before-seen footage, offering privileged behind-the-scenes access to a production still in progress.
The decision to air the documentary several months before the series' release reflects a very specific strategy. HBO intends to keep fans' attention at a peak, by showing the level of care and ambition of the project. The special thus becomes a kind of bridge between the announcement of the series and its official launch, even if the initiative has not been met with unanimous approval: many feel that the machine is getting carried away a little too quickly.
