U.S. Vice President JD Vance has become a father for the fourth time. President Donald Trump’s right-hand man announced the news himself on X, where he reported that he and his wife Usha have welcomed a baby boy: Alec Neel.

Usha also shared the happy news with her followers. “Thank you for all the well-wishes as we get used to the idea that we’re now a family of six, she wrote. She also posted a photo of the newborn and made a lighthearted reference to the challenges of parenthood: “Enjoy this, and also enjoy the efforts we made to get four kids to stay in one photo.”

The couple already had three children—two boys and a girl—all of whom are under the age of ten. It is not known whether this fulfills the family’s desire to have more children. In January 2025, during a protest against abortion, Vance indicated that he wanted “more babies” in the United States.

"More babies in the U.S."

The birth fits into the broader discourse of the Trump administration, in which several figures advocate for larger families. At the same time, an earlier promise by Vance to improve the financial situation of families with children remains unfulfilled for now.

JD Vance and Usha met at Yale Law School, where they were both students. According to multiple sources, this was around 2013, initially as friends within the same study group and social circle. Later, they worked together on an assignment, which turned out to be the beginning of their relationship. JD Vance later said that Usha helped him adjust to the elite lifestyle at Yale. He even called her his “Yale spirit guide.” They married in 2014, a year after they graduated. Usha is the daughter of Indian immigrants and grew up in California. She is also highly educated and worked as a legal professional and attorney. Since then, she has remained a prominent pillar of support in his political career. Together, they now have four children and are one of the best-known political couples in the U.S.
