In several Russian regions, authorities are now urging employers to allow remote work to reduce fuel consumption.
Following repeated Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian oil infrastructure, fuel shortages are becoming increasingly severe.
According to an AFP tally, based on statements from local authorities and local media, nearly 90% of Russian regions have faced rationing or shortages since June.
The most visible measures have been taken in Siberia, particularly in Novosibirsk, Tomsk, and Irkutsk, where regional authorities are asking residents to limit travel. Elsewhere, such as in Mordovia and the Krasnodar region, long lines are forming at gas stations—sometimes lasting for hours—as shown in footage shared on social media. Near a gas station in Irkutsk, portable toilets have even been set up, as drivers often have to wait several hours for their turn. There have also been reports of scuffles at gas stations when waiting drivers run out of patience.
