Dutch man (45) stabs man on train platform in Switzerland and continues to chase him

A 45-year-old Dutch man was arrested on Friday afternoon following a stabbing at the Badischer Bahnhof in Basel, Switzerland. According to Swiss authorities, he allegedly stabbed a 29-year-old man on the platform without any apparent reason and then chased him.

The incident occurred around 1:15 p.m. at the station, according to the Basel Public Prosecutor’s Office. The suspect approached the victim, who was standing on the platform, and is said to have suddenly injured him with a knife. The injured man fled, but the Dutchman gave chase. By chance, a patrol from the Swiss Customs and Border Guard witnessed the chase. The officers immediately intervened, stopped the suspect, and brought the victim to safety. The 29-year-old man was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The suspect was handed over to the police and is currently in custody. Meanwhile, Swiss investigators are trying to determine why the man attacked and are calling on witnesses to come forward. It is unclear at this time whether the Dutchman was already known to authorities in the Netherlands or Switzerland. The Basel public prosecutor’s office is expected to contact the Dutch authorities to request more information about the man. Nothing is yet known about his background or a possible motive.
