A 14-year-old Belgian boy from Binche (Hainaut) drowned on Monday afternoon in a quarry near Watissart in Jeumont, France, close to the Belgian-French border near Erquelinnes. This was reported by the French regional newspaper La Voix du Nord.

The teenager, along with some friends, was looking to cool off in the hot weather and went to a quarry. There, he jumped from a rock several meters high into a restricted, unguarded part of the water. He became trapped deep underwater. His friends tried to rescue him, but to no avail.

Specialized dive teams and a medical response team pulled him from the water, but resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and the boy died at the scene.
