Amanda Seyfried turns farm into a sanctuary for elderly, sick and abandoned animals

Away from the red carpets and flashbulbs, Amanda Seyfried - best known for her role in Mamma Mia! - has built her own stage amidst pastures, stables and ponds. In an interview with Vogue, she talks about life on her farm, a place she unhesitatingly described as her 'dream' (in New York State).
It's not just a country estate, but a fully registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing elderly, sick or abandoned animals. To support the project, Amanda Seyfried can count on the presence of her husband, actor Thomas Sadoski, and their children, Nina and Thomas. Together, they share a routine of early mornings, muddy boots and constant care.
The property is home to six horses, a pony, a donkey, talented goats, chickens of all breeds, as well as shelter cats and pond and barn ducks. And complications are never far away: nocturnal predators, sudden frosts, elderly animals requiring constant attention.
"Horses," explains the actress, "almost always come with a complicated history: physical problems, advanced age, trauma". She rarely rides them. She prefers to "cuddle them from the ground". A gesture that speaks volumes about her relationship with animals: less performance, more care.
From city to country: a choice for balance
The decision to leave New York was not motivated by motherhood. The actress had already chosen the countryside years earlier, convinced that privacy, silence and nature were essential to her own stability. She told Forbes that living in the forests of the Catskills was "crucial to my mental health".
Rural life, however, is far from idyllic. During a severe ice storm, the family had to abandon their unheated home and move into the stable, the only building powered by the working generator. Minus five degrees, young children, in the middle of the night. "This is what happens when you choose nature," said Amanda Seyfried.
A dream that smells like hay
At a time when many celebrities seek visibility, Amanda Seyfried is building a project that goes in the opposite direction: welcoming, responsible, balanced. On the farm, the actress has found the right balance between the frenetic energy of film sets and the slow pace of rescued animals. And perhaps it was amidst the clucking of chickens and the breathing of horses that Amanda Seyfried found her own, truest definition of success.
