Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay a state visit to China on May 19 and 20, a few days after Donald Trump was there. This was announced by the Kremlin.
The program includes a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping to strengthen strategic cooperation between Moscow and Beijing and consultations on economic cooperation with Premier Li Qiang. According to the Kremlin, Putin and Xi will exchange their ideas on "key international and regional issues" and sign a joint statement after the talks.
China considers Russia a priority partner in building a new multipolar world order. Although Beijing formally calls for peace and respect for territorial integrity, it has never condemned Russia for invading Ukraine. Moreover, China remains the largest consumer of Russian fossil fuels, which it uses to co-finance the Russian war machine.
