January 26, International Clean Energy Day

Today, 26 January, is the International Clean Energy Day. The perfect opportunity to reflect on the importance of renewable energy sources for our planet.

The goal is clear: reduce dependence on fossil fuels, reduce carbon emissions and promote a cleaner and fairer energy model.

The day was established in 2023 by the United Nations General Assembly. The goal? To raise awareness and mobilise public action for a sustainable energy future. The chosen date was not a coincidence seeing as the date also coincides with the establishment of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). This agency was established in 2009 to support countries in energy transition and provide data and analysis on technologies, innovation, policies, financing and investments around clean energy.

International Clean Energy Day is also a call to action for all of us: big investments are not always necessary, small daily gestures are enough to make a difference.

Reduce unnecessary power consumption and choose appliances with high energy efficiency

Very often, a small daily action is enough to make a big difference. Switching off lights when not needed, turning off appliances entirely instead of leaving them on standby and choosing household appliances with an energy label class A+++ can significantly reduce consumption within the home. This attitude not only reduces energy bills, but also reduces the demand for energy from polluting sources. By doing these small gestures, you contribute to protecting the environment.

Install solar panels at home or choose renewable energy suppliers

Investing in renewable energy is no longer a privilege of big companies. Many households can install solar panels on their roofs or sign contracts with suppliers that guarantee 100% green electricity. By choosing these alternatives, you produce clean energy at home and reduce dependence on fossil fuels, while also playing an active role in the energy transition.

Encourage sustainable mobility, such as cycling, public transport or electric cars

Transport is one of the sectors that contributes the most to air pollution. Opt for to cycle when traveling for short distances, use public transport or switch to electric vehicles: this is how you reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality in our cities. Even small changes in our daily mobility can have a big impact on the health of the planet and on our own well-being.

Make friends and those around you that aware of the importance of sustainable energy choices

Every personal action becomes even more powerful when shared. Talk about it with friends, colleagues and neighbours, participate in local initiatives or share information via social media: this helps spread the culture of clean energy. Collective awareness is crucial in accelerating energy transition: the more people adopt sustainable habits, the greater the positive change for the planet will be.

A look to the future

Despite the challenges that still lie ahead, the transition to clean energy is already underway and is already delivering concrete results. Every small gesture, every investment in renewable energy, every sustainable choice brings us closer to a greener future. If we continue down this path, we can look to 2030 with confidence: a cleaner, more efficient and resilient world is possible, and the change starts with each and every one of us.
